Critics of the <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">anthropocene<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> narrative, including Andreas <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Malm<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and Alf <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Hornborg<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, ecologists at Lund University in Sweden, point out that environmental degradation and climate change are not the collective <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">primordial crime of mankind (<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">anthropocene<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">) but <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the result of capitalism <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">responsible for social inequal<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">itie<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s and the ap<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">propriation of<\/span> <b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">cheap nature<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. In the 19th century, the fossil<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> fuel <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">based economy was not created and maintained by <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">mankind<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> as a whole<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, but by a group of capitalists seeking to increase the productivity of their companies.
