Community thinking is\u00a0<\/span>a social<\/span>\u00a0endeavo<\/span>u<\/span>r\u00a0<\/span>that considers\u00a0<\/span>the good of t<\/span>he community a priority, sometimes<\/span>\u00a0at the cost of\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>individual\u2019s interest. Instead of granting privileges to\u00a0<\/span>certain<\/span>\u00a0individual<\/span>s,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>it<\/span>\u00a0attempts\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0look for solutions and actions\u00a0<\/span>that meet everyone\u2019s demands<\/span>, treating the good of the communit<\/span>y<\/span>\u00a0as a long-term project stabilizing common good.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Community\u00a0<\/span>thinking means to<\/span>\u00a0tak<\/span>e<\/span>\u00a0care of each other, to do what is good for others<\/span>, too<\/span>, not only for one<\/span>\u00a0person<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>This<\/span>\u00a0however\u00a0<\/span>is\u00a0<\/span>no<\/span>t to be confused wit<\/span>h<\/span>\u00a0charity,\u00a0<\/span>to the contrary<\/span>, community thinking\u00a0<\/span>can\u00a0<\/span>be<\/span>\u00a0a win-win situation for all parties,\u00a0<\/span>for example<\/span>\u00a0exchanging services between\u00a0<\/span>community<\/span>\u00a0members\u00a0<\/span>\u2013\u00a0<\/span>be<\/span>\u00a0it\u00a0<\/span>walk<\/span>ing someone else\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0dog,\u00a0<\/span>or<\/span>\u00a0repair<\/span>ing<\/span>\u00a0the zipper\u00a0<\/span>o<\/span>n\u00a0<\/span>someone\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0jacket etc.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Community gardens are\u00a0<\/span>good<\/span>\u00a0examples of community acti<\/span>vities<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>under<\/span>taken in cities. Another\u00a0<\/span>good<\/span>\u00a0initiative<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>might be\u00a0<\/span>by<\/span>\u00a0local governments, to plant herbs and fruit trees in public space<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0instead of flowers, so that the poorer are able to use and eat them.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On the level of decision making there are more and more human rights movements\u00a0<\/span>that follow a\u00a0<\/span>policy\u00a0<\/span>of letting\u00a0<\/span>the community\u00a0<\/span>make<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>decision<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0instead of\u00a0<\/span>delegating it to<\/span>\u00a0leader<\/span>s<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Similarly,<\/span>\u00a0in many cities and local communities around the world<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0decisions concerning for instance the annual budget are discussed openly, so that the inhabitants can decide<\/span>\u00a0together with\u00a0<\/span>the local government<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>how to spend the funds. This decentralization, the shift in decision making policy is yet another sign\u00a0<\/span>of the growing importance of<\/span>\u00a0local communities<\/span>\u00a0nowadays<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
