Permaculture<\/span>\u00a0sees all elements of agriculture \u2013 flora and fauna, geographic, topographic and hydrographic features, including man and his built environment \u2013 as a unified ecological system. It is based on the natural symbiosis between man and his environment, its close and harmonic cooperation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>The expression is derived from the contraction of the English phrase \u201cpermanent agriculture\u201d. The theoretical basis of\u00a0<\/span>permaculture<\/span>\u00a0was laid down by two Australian scientists, biologist Bill\u00a0<\/span>Mollison<\/span>\u00a0and ecologist David Holmgren in the 1970s, and the movement has gained increasing popularity ever since.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>It aims at decreasing the exploitation of nature, and the energy need and the environmental damaging effects of providing for human needs, while enhancing the creation of a more sustainable ecosystem.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>everydays<\/span>\u00a0of a\u00a0<\/span>permacultural<\/span>\u00a0garden are\u00a0<\/span>characterised<\/span>\u00a0by rainwater harvesting, composting, the full use of plant waste, chemical-free crop production and the use of renewable energy sources. As opposed to\u00a0<\/span>monocultural<\/span>\u00a0cultivation,\u00a0<\/span>permaculture<\/span>\u00a0focuses on supporting a slow or minimal intervention approach, thinking in small-scale systems, and the diversity of species.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
